What is an Official Community Plan?

An Official Community Plan (OCP) is a municipal document that governs the strategic development of the municipality. The OCP is legislated through the Planning and Development Act, 2007. All development proposals must align with the OCP to be approved by Council.

The OCP was last updated in 2019. This update involved extensive community engagement, stakeholder conversations, and governance and planning review.

If you would like to amend the OCP, please complete and submit an OCP/ZB Text Amendment Application. The OCP text amendment process is similar to the rezoning process and requires a $2500 non-refundable administrative fee. To learn more about the rezoning process, click here.

What is the Future Land Use (FLU) Map?

As part of the OCP, the RM has designated specific areas for future residential, commercial, and industrial development. These designations are outlined in the Future Land Use (FLU) Maps. Large sections of the RM are 'undesignated', but other areas, specifically near major highways and other developed areas, are appropriate for certain types of development.

FLU designations and development areas were determined through public consultation and in conjunction with Council and administrative direction.

If you would like to amend the FLU for your property, please complete a Redesignation Application. The FLU redesignation process is similar to the rezoning process and requires a $2500 non-refundable administrative fee. To learn more about the rezoning process, click here.
