Taxation & Assessments

Municipal taxes are used to pay for various services and utilities that everyone in the Rural Municipality (RM) uses. This includes things like road maintenance (except for provincial highways), water and sewer services, safety officers, public works, staff salaries, and governance costs.

Each year, RM staff create a list of projects that need funding. The Council reviews this list and includes it in the budget. After the budget is finalized, the total amount needed is used to determine the tax rate for each property in the municipality.

Taxes are levied in August and are due on December 31st of each year. There are also early payment discounts if you pay your taxes before specific dates. These dates include:

Note: These discounts only apply to the municipal portion of your taxes, not the amount owed to the school board.

  • 5% if paid by September 30th
  • 4% if paid by October 31st
  • 2% if paid by November 30th
