Development & Building Permits

Permit Information

Development Permits are required to ensure that the use of the land complies with the RM's bylaws, especially the Zoning Bylaw.  Acquiring a development permit is the first step for most projects, including:

  • Bringing in clean fill or any other materials, levelling or re-grading a site;
  • Constructing or renovating a building larger than 10m2
  • Starting a home-based business;
  • Moving into a multi-tenant commercial building;
  • Digging a basement; and
  • Building a deck or pool.

Building Permits are required to ensure that all new buildings, alterations to existing buildings, changes to building use, and building demolitions meet national safety standards.

It is the full responsibility of the owner of the land or building to ensure all construction complies with the following:

  • The Saskatchewan Construction Code Act (CCA)
  • The National Building Code
  • The National Energy Code for Buildings
  • The National Plumbing Code
  • the development and building permits, including compliance with conditions

Important information regarding permits:

  • Please apply for your development or building permit at least 4 to 6 weeks before construction is scheduled to begin to allow time for our Development Officer to review your application.
  • Incomplete applications will be returned to the applicant.
  • Work initiated without a permit may be subject to a 25% permit fee surcharge.
  • Some projects may require a development permit, while others require a development permit and a building permit. If you are unsure what permits are required for your project, please contact the RM Planning Department at (306) 347-2965 or by email at planning@edenwold-sk.ca.
