Run for Council or Nominate a Candidate

Interested in serving your community, or know someone who would make a great representative? Eligible electors may nominate themselves or nominate another eligible individual for Council. This page contains information about candidate eligibility, nomination requirements, important deadlines, and the forms needed to participate in the municipal election.

The Nomination Package contains all required forms and information for both candidates and nominators.

Please note that all candidates must consent to their nomination by completing and signing a Candidate Acceptance Form. A nomination cannot proceed without the candidate's acceptance and a completed Public Disclosure Statement.

 Candidate Eligibility

To be nominated for Council, a person must:

  • be at least 18 years of age on election day;
  • be a Canadian citizen;
  • have resided in Saskatchewan for at least six consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day;
  • not be disqualified from being nominated under The Local Government Elections Act, 2015 or any other Act; and
  • be eligible to vote in the rural municipality.

 Nomination Requirements

A nomination must include:

  • a completed Nomination Form;
  • a signed Candidate Acceptance Form; and
  • a completed Public Disclosure Statement.

Each nomination must also be signed by two eligible voters.

  • For Councillor candidates, nominators must be eligible voters within the division the candidate wishes to represent.
  • For Reeve candidates, nominators may be eligible voters from anywhere within the municipality.

 2026 Municipal Election Deadlines

The next municipal election will be held on November 9, 2026.

To have a candidate's name included on the ballot, completed nomination documents must be received by the RM Office no later than:

4:00 PM on October 7, 2026

 Campaign Signage Requirements

Candidates are responsible for ensuring that all campaign signage complies with the RM's Zoning Bylaw and applicable provincial legislation.

Sign Placement

Election signs may be placed in public rights-of-way, subject to the requirements of the RM's Zoning Bylaw section 4.23.

Temporary signs:

  • must not be attached to municipal property, including fences, benches, trees, streetlight poles, or traffic signal poles;
  • must not obstruct pedestrian or vehicle sightlines;
  • must not be located within sight triangles or otherwise impede visibility at intersections, rights-of-way, or railway crossings;
  • may not be placed within 400 metres of a highway property line without first obtaining a Ministry of Highways permit; and
  • must not exceed 6 m² in area.

 

Election Sign Period

Election signs may be erected no earlier than 30 days before election day and must be removed within 24 hours after the close of voting stations.

For the 2026 Municipal Election:

  • Signs may be erected beginning October 10, 2026.
  • Signs must be removed by 8:00 p.m. on November 10, 2026.

 

Polling Place Restrictions

Pursuant to The Local Government Elections Act, 2015, campaign activities and election signage are prohibited within 100 metres of a polling place while voting is taking place.

During polling hours, candidates, campaign workers, and other individuals must not:

  • canvass or solicit votes;
  • persuade or compel a person to vote or refrain from voting;
  • communicate with voters regarding election matters; or
  • display, distribute, or post campaign signs, specimen ballots, or other election materials

within the polling place or within 100 metres of the building in which the poll is held.

 

Polling Place Buffer Zone Map

To assist candidates and promote a fair voting environment, the RM has identified 100-metre buffer zones around each polling place. Candidates are encouraged to avoid placing campaign signs within these areas throughout the election period. Campaign signs are prohibited within these areas while a poll is open in accordance with The Local Government Elections Act, 2015.

Removal of Signs

The municipality may remove, without notice, any sign that interferes with municipal operations or maintenance activities on municipal property.
